Fortunes can change in less than a blink of an eye. Investors need the latest financial information to make critical decisions. TD Ameritrade, a financial brokerage and trading platform, turned to our Media Platform to deliver real-time market news and analysis as an OTT streaming service.

Challenge

TD Ameritrade has a wealth of financial data and market knowledge – intelligence that doesn’t extend to building a media channel. They needed advice and guidance to build a state-of-the-art streaming service to provide clients with financial news and information as it happens.

Solution

TD Ameritrade turned to Broadcast Management Group (BMG), a full service live events production house and systems integrator, to launch and manage the network. BMG selected the Verizon Media Platform to power the streaming service. Features leveraged include: 

  • Live Slicer: Integrates directly with TD Ameritrade’s broadcast signal flow, and allows production operators to dynamically insert ad markers to enable server-side ad insertion in real time.
  • Channel scheduling APIs: Allows the publishing of a 24 x 7 channel that houses both live studio and pre-recorded VOD content and eliminates the need for multi-million dollar master control operations.
  • Conversion technology: Embedded SDI 608/708 closed captions converted to HLS ID3 metadata enables localization of U.S.-market streaming content for audiences worldwide.

Outcome 

TD Ameritrade launched a high-quality, broadcast-grade streaming service in less than 9 months. Verizon Media provided everything they needed, prebuilt, and integrated into our Media Platform, which enabled TD Ameritrade to expand into new markets and begin advertising monetization. The platform also includes features that eliminate costly and complex integrations down the road.
