At the 2018 NAB Show, Verizon Digital Media Services will debut its Live Event Operations managed service, which encompasses pre-event preparations and day-of-show operations handled by an experienced team of live event leads. It will also showcase its Path Monitoring for OTT services, which allows for effortless analyzation of HLS, the widely popular video protocol format, for OTT distribution.

Live Event Operations managed service
Verizon Digital Media Services will unveil the Live Event Operations managed service at the 2018 NAB Show and demonstrate how it can relieve broadcasters and rights holders of dealing with the hassle and complexities of direct live event OTT streaming management. After delivering more than 40,000 live events last year alone, Verizon Digital Media Services recognized a rapidly growing segment of the market and subsequently launched this all-new service.

Leveraging 175+ years of combined broadcast experience, the managed service optimizes workflows in the following areas: broadcast engineering, non-linear editing, transmission engineering, Linux administration and graphic design. It simultaneously helps expand operations requirements to cover more events by acting as an extension of a broadcaster’s operations and engineering team, covering both pre-event preparations and day-of-show operations. The service is ideal for event rights holders and broadcasters looking to capture, stream and scale live OTT events without any fixed cost commitments.

Although this exhibition will mark its North American debut, the Live Event Operations managed service is already in use by major broadcast customers, including Tennis Channel.

Path Monitoring for OTT services
Verizon Digital Media Services will also showcase its Path Monitoring for OTT services, which enables broadcasters and rights holders to have complete end-to-end visibility into the beginning and end of the OTT delivery chain for both live and historical content, as well as record a video affidavit of what went “to air” on OTT.

Path Monitoring can simultaneously monitor, log and record baseband or transport stream broadcast contribution feeds, as well as one or more post-content delivery network HLS renditions, for historical review and comparison of content, all in the same interface. Path Monitoring can also confirm the integrity of content being consumed across geographically distributed locations. Additional features include combined proactive and exception-based alerting on QoE, QoS and compliance metrics.

Path Monitoring is tailored for broadcasters and OTT content rights holders with on-premise facilities and who offer direct-to-consumer OTT service or a TV Everywhere complement to their traditional broadcast services. It is part of the Volicon Media Intelligence service, a unified web-based solution to review, analyze and produce quality content.
