Performance improvements continue for Verizon Digital Media Services’ customers in South America
More PoPs, More Partners & More Customers!
We’re excited to share that we’re continuing to expand our presence in South America, with the recent launch of five new points of presence (PoPs) on our Edgecast Network and the addition of a new customer, the CVC Brasil Operadora e Agência de Viagens SA.
This year, we’ve added six new PoPs in five countries. The new PoPs are located in Medellín, Colombia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Barranquilla, Colombia; Lima Peru; and two PoPs in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The addition of these new PoPs significantly improves our network performance on key measurements such as response time — the amount of time between receiving users’ requests and responding to them — and throughput — the speed of delivering data back to a user’s device. In recent tests, our network had the fastest throughput and quickest response time when compared to other CDNs in the respective LatAm countries.*
Our Rio de Janeiro PoP also serves as a Transact PoP — a purpose-built, PCI Level 1 Certified CDN service that securely carries e-commerce traffic and has critical operational protocols specific to e-commerce, such as holiday code freezes.
Customers — like one of our newest in South America, CVC Brasil Operadora e Agência de Viagens SA — will immediately begin to experience the benefits of these network enhancements. In addition to using our CDN, CVC Brasil will also be using our authoritative-only IP Anycast DNS; our rate limiting product, which protects against HTTP flood attacks; our Application Delivery Network, which dynamically inspects and optimizes requests for HTML, JS, CSS and images on the fly; and our Web Application Firewall, which enables real-time monitoring, logging and access control to protect online commerce applications.
Said Miguel Alcantara, CIO of CVC Brasil: “We required a dependable, agile solution that could adapt to our ever-growing digital market. Throughout a lengthy, rigorous trial process, Verizon Digital Media Services consistently demonstrated its quickness, nimbleness, issue resolution, and ease of use with high quality. We could not have asked for a better partner.”
CVC Brasil is the largest tour operator in Latin America and among the top 20 in the world. It has the biggest retail network tourism in Latin America, comprising more than 1,040 exclusive stores and 6,500 multi-brand travel agencies. In the past two years, the company has made several acquisitions, including Duotur Group, Easy Booking and Submarino Viagens, which will also use our products.
For customers like CVC Brasil, the addition of these six PoPs comes at an optimal time, as OTT traffic in Latin America is growing significantly. With a total of eight PoPs in seven cities and five countries, we now have one of the largest network footprints in South America.
Kyle Okamoto, our vice president of global network, shared: “Our unique, centralized and horizontally scalable PoP architecture helps our content delivery network consistently perform at a superior level. As our presence continues to rapidly grow in South America, we will continue to invest in long-term network infrastructure developments in this market.”
We worked with several local partners to launch the PoPs, including Telxius, who helped us launch in Lima, Barranquilla and Buenos Aires. Formed earlier this year by Telefónica, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, Telxius manages Telefónica’s infrastructure assets in 21 countries, including 16,000 telecommunications towers in Europe and South America and more than 19,000 miles of submarine optical fiber cable. Working with Telxius enabled us to utilize strategic locations — including data centers, cable landing stations and central offices — on its broad and powerful network to ensure that our PoPs have optimal performance to their consumers.
Said Rafael Arranz, Telxius’ Chief Operating Officer: “We are delighted to partner with one of the world’s leading digital media company who is as committed to global scaling as we are. As Verizon Digital Media Services continues to invest in the LatAm region, we look forward to finding even more opportunities to collaborate together, to continue to bring the highest quality of content available to consumers everywhere.”
We have additional PoPs in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia, and more than 3,000 interconnections worldwide. Aside from a unique PoP architecture, our worldwide content delivery network comprises fault tolerant design, centralized distribution topology and other industry-leading features.
